Position Description
UtilityPower is seeking Wire Down Guards (WDG’s) to support utility partners during major weather events across the United States. This is a seasonal, contract-based 1099 position. Assignments may range from one day to several weeks, depending upon the extent of storm damage.
This is not a full-time role, but it offers competitive pay and expense reimbursement for qualified individuals willing to travel and respond during emergency conditions. Travel using a personal or company vehicle is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Protect the public from downed power lines
- Monitor assigned wire-down locations for extended periods
- Use required technology to report updates to the utility
- Work long shifts, often independently, during emergency response events
- Communicate clearly with the public, utility personnel, and other Wire Down Guards
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license with no time-based or state-based restrictions
- Ability to work long hours in emergency conditions
- Ability to work independently and follow safety protocols
Preferred Qualifications
- Access to a presentable personal vehicle with full insurance coverage
- Previous storm response or wire-down guard experience
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Military, first responder, or emergency response experience preferred
Additional Information
If an individual does not have access to a personal vehicle, a rental vehicle may be arranged for qualified candidates age 21 or older.
