Position Summary
UtilityPower is seeking Damage Assessors (DAs) to support utility partners during major weather events across the United States. This is a seasonal, contract-based (1099) position ideal for professionals with utility distribution experience who are available on short notice. Damage Assessors play a critical role in storm response by safely patrolling assigned areas and accurately reporting damaged distribution infrastructure using mobile technology.
This is not a full-time role, but it offers competitive pay and expense reimbursement for qualified individuals willing to travel and respond during emergency conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrol and assess storm-impacted distribution infrastructure.
- Accurately document damage using utility-provided mobile applications.
- Identify necessary repair crews (distribution, transmission, vegetation) and report required actions.
- Safely navigate hazardous environments, including downed lines, rough terrain, and extreme weather conditions.
- Communicate effectively with utility personnel and other assessors.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience working with electric utility distribution systems.
- Personal smart device with active data plan (for app-based reporting).
- Working knowledge of distribution components, including:
- Poles, primary/secondary conductors
- Transformers, fuses, reclosers, regulators
- Insulators, secondary services, and related equipment
- Physically fit for duty and able to work in the field for extended hours.
- Financial ability to cover travel expenses up front (to be reimbursed).
Preferred Qualifications
- Access to a 4x4 truck or SUV.
- Previous storm or emergency damage assessment experience.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
