Position Summary
The primary duties of the Senior Systems Engineer are to provide engineering services for the design, automation, and implementation of UIG projects and GridSure control systems. These engineering activities are centered around the development of accurate and detailed engineering solutions for the design of distributed generation control systems, PLC programming, SCADA and remote monitoring solutions, protective relay programming, battery storage applications, generators, networking equipment, and system control architecture.
This will be based on customer or internally provided plans and specifications that will be submitted and then released for design and procurement following UIG procedures and standards
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and commissioning of HV, MV, and LV (AC/DC) electrical power systems
- Manage and deliver electrical and power system scope on projects of varying size and complexity
- Develop project scope, capital cost, and engineering cost estimates
- Proactively contribute to business development, proposal development, and networking initiatives
- Project review of the specifications and drawings with the design team, as well as identifying previous projects of a similar type
- Produce complete and accurate product and system designs for internal UIG consumption, as well as customer consumption
- Create and verify the BoM (Bill of Materials) for the project, identifying long lead time items and ensuring long lead BOMs get released on time to avoid project delays
- Support SCADA, protection, and controls for various types of power systems at an application and design level
- Ensure schedules and milestone dates are achieved
- Review and verify the drawing packages before submittal and release
- Provide coordination and documentation for internal UIG teams
- Resolve any outstanding questions or issues for the design
- Prepare engineering drawings from sketches, verbal descriptions, specifications, and technical information
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality engineering designs
- Communicate orally in the English language with other engineers, drafters, and manufacturing personnel via phone and face-to-face
- Own and project manage deliverables associated with electrical drawings, EBOMs, SOOs, etc
- Aid in keeping the overall engineering schedule on track; raise red flags early when milestones are at risk
- Own Program Level design and support efforts
